    ^ This is the usual advice you get from very successful people who had some lucky breaks. It's not really true.

    Just making amazing work doesn't always mean you'll be discovered or talked about.

    It was floating around some guy projected his CV on the building of the place he wanted to work, an agency. Called every day and wouldn't stop until he got an interview.

    Stuff like this is a fine line between desperation / ideal work place.

    From personal experience I've done the following:

    Been fired and said I would finish a contract out to the best of my ability - finished it, and was hired.

    Have had a week contract, liked it, just kept turning up - got extended.

    A gimmick will be laughed at, or kept and talked about. You don't want to be laughed at. You want to be taken pretty seriously as a senior. Or if you're going for junior or intern. Anything goes.
