Why do such small images take so long to load? I'm puzzles why it's so slow?
I think you need to work with somebody to get your site working better. It's a shame to display your otherwise nice work on something that isn't working.
It's like going to a presentation, and your projector doesn't work.

do you have any designs with Ligers in them?

Your ABOUT link starts off the load process, but doesn't add any content into the wee box that pops up? You could add some content to the CONTACT button too, otherwise why not just have your email address displayed immediately?
You're loading WAY too much in one go. Your page weight is 4.1mb and you appear to be loading in not just overs-zied thumbnails, but the end links as well.
This is FAR TOO heavy.
If you're going to use JQuery like this, either go the full hog and AJAXify it, or try and be smart and bodge it a little, so you don't overwhelm the initial site load with all your content.
Stylistically, I think your work speaks volumes about your style, so I wouldn't feel the need to further enforce thing by texturising the site as you have. Making the container graphics simpler would also help with load times.
I don't like your logo, but hey - what do I know?
- thank you.. I think I am going to remove the textures and whatnot..I want it to be at a optimal size to run perfectly..thank you for your input good sir.mattfoo

your server is broken
- mattfoo0
ok. I will go through and resize all of the images and save for web and devices.
is there any other way to lighten up the load?

You could bodge it to only load in the first few thumbnails, then load in the rest in afterwards (say after clicking NEXT or BACK), or just look into image caching and AJAX-flavoured content loading, but they're problems I'm having at the moment too, so I can't describe what exactly 'AJAX-flavoured content loading' means!

Site went ape shit when I first opened it in Firefox. When I reloaded it it worked fine.
