Some time ago designer Emil Kozak made some of the coolest surfboard graphics for surf god Kelly Slater: http://www.emilkozak.com/studio
I myself recently design some for Finnish brand A-Senne: http://shop.asennesurf.com/Publi… (spray designs)
But isn't it pretty rare we see really good surfboard graphics? I have a hard time finding some that really rock! Skateboard and snowboard graphics have a long history of making inspiring graphics, but what about surfboard design? Am I missing something?
Let's see some links and pictures to the best surfboard graphics out there!...

wicked designs, but what is it about the "clean white board"? is it a tradition in surfing? i come from skateboarding and snowboarding but surf now, and just think the graphics in the surf world is much less inspiring and innovative than in skate/snow... in general ofcourse..

loppa, there are two reasons for the plain white board. First, they're easier to fix. Surfboards aren't nearly as tough as skateboards or snowboards. If you patch a board with an all-over paint job, you'll have a glaring white chunk where you had to dig into the graphics.
The second reason is a carryover from late 70s SoCal surf minimalism, when everyone wore all-black wetsuits, rode white boards, and localism was at its peak (or all-time low, depending on how you see things).
For me, I prefer a simple resin tint, with perhaps some classic pinstriping. I think surfboards are more like sculpture than skateboards and snowboards, and so their shifting form, curves, and volume have more visual, 3-D interest.
Maybe one day, boards that are pretty much ding-proof will become the norm. I think when that happens, surfboard graphics will go through the roof... but not until then.
There are cool textural innovations like bamboo-glassed boards, which need no graphics.
These are my personal favorite...lovely resin tints and simple graphics. I have one of their quad fishes:

“What dangerous curves and me with no brakes,” are the Spanish words you’ll be reading (or screaming) as you carve your way down a breaking wave. And James Victore’s hand-painted artwork isn’t the only thing that’s bold about this board. Designed for the hurricane-loving dawn patroller, this 6'2' shortboard is hand-shaped and glassed by Mike Becker of Nature’s Shapes in Long Island and outfitted with three Future fins. Victore is a self-taught artist and designer known for his emotive, sensual and fearless work. He is also a professor at the School of Visual Arts in New York. Made in U.S.A.

Ahh thanks for the explanation there (Scotch_Roman), makes good sense. So we could be looking at more boards graphics if the ding-proof board gets invented! hehe. I guess the boards with full graphics is more a pro thing then, such as the Kelly boards.
Those Mandala boards are true beauty.. less is more seems to be the style, and it really makes sense once you see the boards 3D shape as a uniquely sculpted board...
