Finders fee?

Through my contacts I got the opportunity to move a fair bit of print work (3000 - 9000 flyers per week) to a local printers of mine. I would not be designing the flyers just passing the business there way.
Would you negotiate something like a finders fee or comission on the number of flyers printed or is that just being a bit greedy????
Any thoughts suggestions?

For an advisor's fee.

And/Or a 1off payment, % from my contact for saving them £x per month...
I feel evil just typing this kind of stuff but we all gotta eat!

But seriously though, if you were able to approach the printer and say you can give them a substantial amount of print work but would expect to retain a print buyer's fee for doing so, they would probably cut you a back hand. If however you've already introduced the client to the printer and are now sat there thinking you might retrospectively ask for a hand out after the event, then I'd say you've blown it.
- Yeah no introductions made, it's strictly through me atm.jysta

you should get something out of the deal from the printer. This is the basis of professional networking. Even if it is just a bottle of scotch or a nice dinner... they should do something to show appreciation.
- I was thinking 10% on the first 12,000 per month :D that idea now sounds totally wrong :-Djysta

if you do use them for your printing jobs is to approach them with an offer of discounted services - say 10% or so - for you since you are driving business to them. That way you can charge your clients the normal rate of the printer and the difference between the regular rate and the discounted rate is effectively a finders fee for you.
But this way you are not asking for cash from them, you are asking for a discount which is a bit more subtle.

just hand on the business and have faith that they will look after you down the track. No use setting up some sort of forced arrangement, it might serve you okay in the short term, but eventually people move on and you're left with nuthin'.

Goodwill with the printer will be more beneficial long term.Orbit

I get work from my printer, from his clients who need web stuff or big projects he can't handle. I'd be annoyed if asked ME for a finders fee.
