best way to find some freelance work

besides CL? Any one do cold calls or emails to local buisness in there hood. what has your expierence been. I have lots of shops I actually wouldn't kind doing web work for.

Go to AIGA or Ad Club events. Start chatting people up. Make a local presence. Call local agencies, ask if you can have an audience with the CD to show your work.
Check out events at your local chamber of commerce. A lot of it—and a lot of the people—will be super cheesy, but it can put you in touch with a lot of people who need design work.
