2009 is definitively the year of the Alien / alternate reality scenario,
so far
District 9, warehouse 13, Knowing, Monsters vs Aliens, Transformers 2, Alien Trespass, Avatar, Battle for Terra, Planet 51, Aliens in the Attic, Fringe....- Even Star Trek itself. Plot and believability with fans hinges on an alternate reality scenario.harlequino

saw this last night. pretty solid sci fi. liked the allegory more than the action but the violence was really well done without being gratuitous.
- marychain0
WOW....that was a BAAAD movie
- effects were ok.....but god...awfulmarychain
- you sir, are a fag!imnotadesigner

it wasn't that bad. It wasn't great. Pretty much take a written story (very predictable) Add some pretty nice (yet very noticeable) effects, and you get District 9.
Although I liked how they added the politics of refugee camps. Something America I feel is very removed from, but does not come close to Children of Men's view.
- it was referring to apartheid above the refugee camps. children of men was awesome.airey

it was so gratuitously violent...way too much
ahhh..I guess I might just be old. I don't need to people literally exploding every 5 minutes.
But I can see how kids might like it....it has a rather blunt message that really didn't get through...what with the um...aforementioned...exploding people.
Go see it....it's interesting I guess...definitely not my cup of tea though.
- I'm a 25/m and thought they could have told a better story with less violence. and I'm usually a big fan of it...identity
- yeah, we needed less violence in an allegorical story about racially charged violence.spifflink
- thats what you took away from it?identity
- I got the fucking allegory...jesus christ it was as blunt as can be...no subtlety. It still was pretty suckymarychain

Just saw this tonight. Packed theatre. Not the kind of movie that you would want to sit through sitting five rows from the front.
Pro: Documentary set-up, no real hero, not set in the bloody fucking United States.
Con: It was all right.
