I studied architecture history extensively and have not heard of this architect. And looking at the photos, I don't see any architectural significances.
If it was Farnsworth house, it would have been a different story and in fact, it was. So ,the house was purchased by the local preservationists at a Sotheby's auction to keep it in its place instead of migrating it to a different location. If the local preservationists feel the Jackling house is a very important piece of history, why don't they buy it from Jobs and run a museum out of it.
Green and Green, Richard Neutra, Rudolph Schindler, Eames, FLW, Mies, to name a few, those architects designed houses that defines very important architectural movements in America. But George Washington Smith? Never heard of him. I mean, he was a Spanish Colonial Revival architect. There's nothing original about that. He might have been a popular architect in his time but not what I call a history maker.

I'm no millionaire, so lets put this into perspective for everyone here:
1.) I can take your old, deluxe cheeseburger that's been sitting around for quite some time now and rebuild it for $13.30
2.) I can make you a fresh, deluxe cheeseburger for $8.20 (I'll even throw in fries)

If Jobs is successful in a review of his request, though, it will bring to an end a municipal fight that has occupied much of the decade: Jobs had originally filed for a permit to demolish the building in 2001 and got the go-ahead in 2004, only to have it contested and rejected three years later.

That house is his Dorian Grey painting. He's right though, that house is pretty ugly and plain. He probably the laughing stock of the billionaires.

That would be funny if Gates was behind the Save The Jackling House coalition.
