One more question about rates QBNers.
What is an average day rate for maintenance on a website (it is built on a wordpress but requires pretty time-consuming editing to update).I will probably spend like 3 hours a day, 4 days out of the week. What would you charge? Thanks dudes/dudettes.

heres another catch.... they said they "know this will only take about 30 min of my day each day.. " so they are pitching me $80/week hahaha no way.

if they know how long it will take, tell them to do it themselves

Three hours a day, 4 days per week, to edit the text on a web site? Can't these people write at all?
And that doesn't really sound like design. That sounds like stenography. Don't they have an intern to do that?
I'd charge them a fortune, just for being so lame.

tell them to outsource

you think you're going to get $50 an hour to maintain a website? HA ya right. And you're going to spend 3 hours a day for updates, 4 days a week, every week? Why would they be changing there info every day? Why wouldnt they set up graphics to transition through important stuff....

Half of you idiots think your skills are so precious and unique.
REALITY FLASH.
Their are a million other people that will do your job for less money and better quality.

i agree with boobs and hurley. i am not spending most of my time on them.... it is maybe 30 minutes a day like they said... but im not gonna tell them that.
i told them $300/week to make a change 4 days of the week. it changes alot because its a venue/gallery/event space

Hurley...
... you're 19... right?
... it's showing...

or younger?
50/hour is not asking too much at all... AT ALL... little tits like you who broadcast you'll do something 'cheaper' are absolute tools and the reason quality often gets tossed under the bus for price.
... $50/hour... is cheap.... shut the fuck up... grow up...
... and stop helping others fuck up.

I get a minimum $65/hour... regardless of what I'm doing - if someone isn't willing to pay for it... they don't need my help.

I have to point out that nothing takes only 30 minutes a day! You'll make the changes, then they'll notice a typo, and you'll have to change that. With the emailing back and forth, it will eat up more time than that. Plus it will be interrupting the flow of other projects...
- On the other hand, having a little steady retainer might be a good thing. You'll at least have bus fare.boobs

this is all very helpful once again thanks dudes :)
im keepin it real with them. I'll be averaging 85-100/hour with what i quoted so no sweat.

boobs i did tell them nothing takes 30 minutes, i told them it will be at least 1-2 hours a day and i cant charge less than $100/hour, but will negotiate a set fee and set hours that will range 85-100/hour.
im learning alot communicating to other designers i am kind of reserved in my work and in my business i need more advice like this
any aspiring mentors out there? im just kidding i hate mentors.
