Paul Rand felt that the "hidden" arrow in the FedEx logo should be a different color to make it stand out. Discuss.
or discuss something else design related.
or something else entirely--your call.

no way... then it would take away everything

but what do YOU think?

I never saw the arrow until somebody pointed it out. I didn't need to either. It adds nothing meaningful to the design. Another color would have made it stand out like clutter. It's fine the way it is.

The issue with these two logos is that they look like regular letter-forms. I'm not saying it is negative or positive, but it's almost like the design and thought behind it is only appreciated and known by an elite group.

btw: teh arrow was a coincidence

the problem with it being 'hidden' is nobody, besides other designers, gives a shite... i haven't read anything about it but i very much doubt the subliminal message of the arrow is going to have any effect on the casual observer (potential customer) at all.

IDK it's kinda subliminal.

GOD NO!!! I love the fact that half the people don't know its there. It is a GREAT subliminal icon.

nobody's answering the followup questions

the fedex arrow is elegant in it's simplicity because it isn't called out. just my opinion.
- Rand0
surprised nobody has shown it colored in yet... I'm too lazy

hmm...maybe it wasn't an accident. i found this lindon leader quote but have no idea whether it is authentic or not:
"To avoid getting too technical here, suffice it to say I took the best characteristics of both and combined them into unique and proprietary letterforms that included both ligatures (connected letters) and a higher “x-height,” or increased size of the lower-case letters relative to the capital letters. I worked these features around until the arrow seemed quite natural in shape and location."
- it was def not an accident.Hurley
