Wondering if it's cool to ask for votes in a contest...

My partner and I have had our contest submission shortlisted so we are one of four groups that is going to have our worked printed out and placed in transit shelters around Toronto. There is a website that will go live in the next two weeks which will offer the public the opportunity to vote on their favourite piece of work.
I'm not asking for votes for my submission in particular, I just would love to get as many people as possible in on this which will inherently up the odds of more people voting overall, and perhaps for my groups submission as well.
If there are not any concerns I'll go ahead and make a post asking for the QBN community to throw down some votes... I'll make sure to place a brief so that there is some context but essentially the goal of the ad is to make people smile... the more smiles there are the happier our world will be... corny but true...
Yay or Nay?

Well flavorful unabashedly demanded that I vote for his bunny photo in another possibly less serious contest. It won too, apparently :)

I have to say no, unless you are friends with the people that are going to vote for you. In reality, no one that you don't know will go through opening an account or leaving their info to vote for you. I don't mean to be harsh, but think about how many times you saw people asking here and how many of those time you actually gave them a vote.
Its your choice, and also it won't hurt to try I guess.. you never know.
What you should never do, is spam people you don't know to follow you on twitter, specially on sites like b3hanc3. :)

Thanks for the feedback... I'll start a new thread as soon as I get the contest URL and all that goody info in text form.

No. It is dishonest if you ask strangers to vote for you. It cheapens the whole thing if you win. Anyone can press a button, can anyone actually give a crap about your whatever?

mg33 please read.
Did I not make myself clear when I said that I just wanted more people to vote for in the contest, not our submission... your vote is your choice.
