Does anyone have this problem where when you try to unmount an external hard drive sometimes it says it can't be unmounted because it's in use even if nothing's open and there are no apps running or anything? This just seems to randomly happen sometimes. What can I do?

Restart your computer. Then try.

I've heard of this problem both on mac or pc. I gather it's because they are being listed somewhere - in PC it's as silly as being in MS Office's recently opened files list. In Mac I dunno, but I would try what invisiblechamber suggested.

if you shut down the computer you can remove the ex. HD safely also.

You may have to restart on the Mac.
When it comes to the PC, however, it always tells me I can't unmount. I just keep trying until it works.
