It was my last day at work today, quit my job to go full time freelance as an interactive designer... I know there's been many before me, but what a great feeling. Any advice?

Its a brave new world out there. I congratulate your entrepreneurial spirit and hope it works out for you.
Hopefully you have a handful of freelance clients already dialed in. On one hand, freelance times are good as many companies are looking to take things in house or to outsource to cheaper venues than expensive agencies, but on the other hand you're entering a market where rates are lower than I've seen in some time.
So then, good luck mate, should you land a project over your head, reach out and make some new connects.
I've made a few good connections on this site just by putting out the word that I needed some help on this or that.

Best of luck Meatball, you probably picked the worst time since the Great Depression to quit a job and seek freelance opportunities...
You must have some big meatballs
:D- 90% of the people have a job....Are you living on boiled water and ketchup packets?Hurley
- lots of companies are trying to cut costs by hiring freelancers now. may actually be pretty strategic.carryon
- in my experience having a strategy of hiring freelancers over a regular doesn't save money.peterorpete
- ..we ended up having full time freelancers at freelance wages, i think its better too investpeterorpete

Don't let people here give you the economy crap. You do what you feel is important to you.
- So much of the econo scare is total shiite. people r freaked out, and soon enough they'll realize its way blown out or proportion.threadpost

Network...network...network. Don't let clients make you feel bad for demanding they pay on time. Good luck kid.

Here's the upside to the downturn right now – lots of larger companies and organizations have made staffing cuts to reduce overhead, but have made few cuts in the scope of work or project goals. This means that there are lots of contracting/consulting/freelanci... opportunities in the market. There is work out there, it's just dependent on finding it. If you're out on your own, work what network of people you've got and take every opportunity you can to make new contacts.

And if it's your first time on your own – don't learn the business rules the hard way! Seek out the information. Talk to folks that have been doing it a while and read up on good business practices for folks like yourself – there is plenty of information out there.
Just remember, always use a contract – know matter how good it feels without one.
- I'll be sure to have protection from a contract, thanks letters2meatball

Welcome to the club, son.

Agree with letters2, I have friends in CAD drafting and network admin that are already losing their jobs to outsourcing. If the company only needs 20 hours a week of drafting or network maintenance done, it makes no sense at this point to employ someone for 40 hours a week. It could well be a good move. Best of luck!
