Spot colour/CMYK question...

Sent some artwork for a simple business card design to the printer who requested that I only use spot colors... I went though the logo file and checked the colors - only using 1 spot color. Checked the colors of the graphic element I was using in the design black lines and one spot color line. Removed all the colors from the inDesign palette left with black and red (spot color).
Did a preflight check in inDesign that said I was still showing CMYK and 1 spot I was confused? Sent a high res PDF to the printer who have come back and said one of the elements in the design is still using CMYK?????
Frustrated, what have I not done? What have I missed? Can anybody help?
Cheers

Black is your CMYK color, I guess.

It may have somehting to do with the black in the Indesign file. Try and replace the Indesign Black with a Spot Black.

Give your printer a call.

Run separations onto a laser printer. Chances are, Indesign is showing CMYK because you're using plain black. If your C, M, and Y plates come out blank, you're fine.

make a PDF, open in Acrobat. Use the Advanced Menu then Output Preview or whateve its called. You can select ink output and see where the CMYK is vs spot vs rgb if you file contains it.

You don't need to make the black a Spot. If it's 100% K then it's already on its own plate.
- And this plus your red would be 2 spots.duckofrubber
- i'm assuming its not 100K, make it a spot and eliminate any question.horton
- and personally i like to make all my inks spots (including black) in a spot job... makes quick color changes easy peasey.horton
- Well, I was simply pointing out the obvious. That's all.duckofrubber
