I think there's some kind of news blackout on it. The week before Obama makes his first visit to the UK, and I've not heard a mention of it on the news.

hehe good guess chossy
i do think theres going to be a riot - see RBS thread.
thats why I think the government has issued this "terror training" announcement.the government has been criticised this week for treating protestors as criminals/terrorists which is wrong - a criminal record for fighting for something you believe in.
these days the police have full control, if it gets what they consider "out of hand" then the tear gas will fly.
being a bystander at the G8 protests in Edinburgh was a joke, the police were herding the crown like animals.there was an amazing story about the first UK Union on the One show the other week, mid 1800s some guys swore an oath to try to fight for better pay. their boss wrote to the government who had them put on trial for "swearing an oath" something made illegal in an old Navy Law they dug up. the guys got sent to Oz prison.
The country protested - thousands of people outside parliament - and at that time this was a BIG thing, it was the first time parliament had been challenged. the protestors turned up with a petition to hand in meanwhile all the MPs were cowering inside and all the cannons were pointing at the protestors.
This changed nothing until lawyers from around the country started writing to the government sayign that if these guys were in jail because they had swore an oath then surely Masons, Lawyers, MPs, Doctors etc should all be sent to jail too.
The government changed their tune due to public demand and the guys returned to the UK as heroes. Also there was the suffragettes, who REALLY protested and believed in something so strongly they were willing to give their lifes for women to get the vote.
That kind of thing just wouldnt happen these days.
PEOPLE POWER will NEVER overturn the law or government in this day and age. If you disagree with the government you are branded a criminal and dismissed.
They rule the place fullstop. Its all about what they want, what they think is right and of course backhanders to industry (new airports etc).I do think that the G20 might provoke a riot because I think that a lot of people in the UK have had enough. their voice is not heard or cared about by the government. so I think people that feel strongly should shout that little bit louder!
Im not condoning violence, but im all for people power.

Robert Pestons book - "Who runs Britain" is an interesting insight in to how much Brown and Blair take it up the arse from the money men. Being fooled in to changing tax laws so Venture Capatilists/Private Equity Companies pay less tax than the cleaners who clean their offices. Nice.
You make a good point though 23kon - if the government were to actually hear the voice of the UK we might get somewhere, but they don't.

"PEOPLE POWER will NEVER overturn the law or government in this day and age."
I actually think it's far easier. Taking out the governments ability to communicate via mass direct action from a piece of software (for example) would be dead easy to achieve. You could cause massive disruption with no discernible culprit.

What we need is more Tories. Lot's of them. And Prince Charles.
- I can only come up with Tori Amos and Tori Spelling... that's not going to be enoughflashbender
- so Tori Spelling's horse face isn't enough to have the pollies cowering submission?Amicus

the tories are too busy counting their wealth and creating divisive social structures to do anything about anything

Both UK and US decided to print money, they're either out of their minds or want to escalate the problem so that people would swallow the solution they have for us. Fun times. If you have any savings, buy gold before the inflation hits.
