Ok i know, thats like comparing apples to PCs , ehm i mean oranges.
But what are the main differences or say downsides of the T1i that justify the huge price difference?

5D is full-frame, nicer viewfinder, 30FPS in 1080P. Also more robust build, dial on the back, and of course feels great in your hand. I've got the 5D mark I, and it's great. You can use it in front of clients for ad shoots without somebody asking stupid questions. All that said, any camera in the hands of a good photog is better than any camera in the hands of a camera geek....

no comparison. end thread.

The sensor is the major difference. Doesn't matter if they bump that T1i sensor to 20mp, you'll just have bigger lower quality pics.
That being said, does that mean a person can't shoot amazing shots on a T1i? Absolutely not.

It's like comparing a 370Z to a 911 Turbo. In capable hands, the 370 will blow the doors off the 911. For an beginner, it doesn't matter so much, you'll never touch the potential of either. For the expert, the 911 will blow the doors off the 370.
I love car analogies!
- now i understand ;-)meisterschueler
- cara anlogies are really cool, and that one was the shit.Ambushstudio
- Actually the 5D is a 911, the 50D is a 370Z and the Rebel is a Mitsubishi Eclipse!vaxorcist

just get the 5D if you think of ever doing erious photography, in the long run will be better, as soon as you get better and more into it you will realize that the rebel was not the best deal.

If you're just getting into photography or if this is your first dslr don't even think of buying the 5D. The 5D is for people who need it, and if you're not sure then you don't.

I should add: If you can afford the 911, just get it. If money is a point, then go for something that makes sense.

Most people don't get it. I don't always get it, sometimes I think I am imagining it. It is just that the images look better. In some way it has to do with using a larger crop of the lens.
As somebody once said, the optical quality difference between APS (cropped frame) and full frame is similar to the difference between full frame (small format, 35mm) and medium format. It's the oomph the images get. It's the inyourfaceness.Full frame, for instance, offers one step smaller DOF over cropped frame. In other words, f/1.8 on full frame is like f/1.4 on cropped frame. But it is not only that. I am not sure what it is, probably the sharpness falloff in small DOF pictures.
I still can't grasp it.. but when I got the 5D and saw the images, I didn't look back.I am planning to buy a small second body for travel and long tele shots though, the new Rebel looks very promising.
- Yep. The 5D's images a real 3D feel to them. I love the 5DNightshade
- The 5D is very nice.... I'd rather have a 5D mark I than any Rebel....vaxorcist

what i liekd about it was the full HD video functionality, but after looking i saw that the 500d only has 20fps at full HD!!
thats annoying enough
