I know this is late in the day for the euro-heads but... I'll bump tomorrow too.
We're planning a road trip for May/June time. Has anyone done one? any tips, best routes etc??
We normally do euro travel by the trains and went south last year through bosnia, slovenia etc etc so our plan as it stands now is go from the UK, ferry to denmark, go through scandanavia, down through the baltics (there is some archepelago off estonia we want to check out), through poland, germany, netherlands and ferry back to UK..
I want to get visas for Kaliningrad...
any idears??

we did croatia, bosnia, slovenia etc last year by train. have been almost everywhere else including russia.
we'll be starting in the UK because we're taking our own car - we're down with the ferries.
the idea of heading north was inspired by johnathan meades...

Some high-ways and crossings in Scandinavia have heavy toll-fares. For example, just the Øresund Brigde (crossing from Denmark into Sweden) is around €40, for a single car trip. If you have a trailer or you are driving a caravan, it soars high above the €100 mark.
- wow. this is the kind of tip i'm looking for.. thanks.lowimpakt

Actually will be there in May. Exchange rate is not too shabby.

we have to hit Polska at some stage... I spent some time with polish last summer in berlin - wanted to visit ever since..
anywhere in particular? anywhere bizzare? memorable?

I would definitely visit Helsingør, a bunch of miles north of Copenhagen (there's a nice 1-day ferry trip from the capital).
It's internationally known as "Hamlet's Castle". It's the setting of the famous Shakespeare's play, which derived from the tales of Saxus Grammaticus (a Danish scholar) in a book called "Gesta Danorum". At that time everything was written in Latin.

norwegian highways are bad because theyre only one lane, and they take u thru/around mountains,
beautiful nature scenery, but takes forever to reach ur destination

Sorry, too much to put in a note. Last year we drove from Sopot in the North of Poland right down to Zakopane in the South. Absolutely brilliant. Krakow is a must see, only spent a few days there and it wasnt enough time. The chicks are hot. Roads are a bit nuts but if you dont use the imaginery third lane you will be ok.
