the routine of getting excited over a job interview and then the crushing blow of 'sorry you are not a right fit for the role' is getting pretty damn discouraging.
seems like you need to be able to jungle, blow fire and ride a unicycle while presenting your portfolio to get anywhere these days!!

Same for me and yes, it is very discouraging. Seems like the line between design and development has really blurred. Also, I am encountering a lot of people asking for expert level Actionscript 3 skills......
- if that the case just become a coder and do away with design, get the money and only to 50% of the work?roundabout
- Ridiculous! I'm a professional designer, have held many positions, and nobody's EVER asked about Actionshit skills.monospaced

Keep on trucking!

"jungle, blow fire and ride a unicycle while presenting your portfolio to get anywhere these days"
nice, seems I am at an advantage after all

sell yourself a little and always follow up.

if you're not 'the right fit'
its not because you didnt juggle and blow fire or because you refused the sly handjob under the table
its because.. you're not the right fit. youre too boring, or too exciting, or too unpredictable or too predictable.
how about you find somewhere where you actually think you'd fit in?
or just be better at what you do.. and then anyone will ignore your wonky personality traits.
- I'm glad that someone finally said "juggle" and not jungle -LOL-

I'm going with psenso's first comment.
Also, desmo, if you don't know already, bitching about not getting a job is not allowed if you don't show your work. Put your shit online, give us the link, and we'll let you know why you aren't getting the positions you want.

How about this one:
I went to an interview for an internship, and a few days later they offered me an oppportunity. I was happy and accepted it. When it came down to know what day I would start, the company never returned my calls or emails. Mfers!- bummerattentionspan
- As professionals would say This is very unprofessional.kgvs72

call them, tell them you rejected another immediate job offer in favour of theirs. now that position has been filled. you have lost out on a shit load of money (make up ammount) demand compensation 0 or you take them to court.
then tell them to eat a dick

Keep your chin up!
I just got a call after three weeks of not hearing a single peep from a company that I had interviewed at 3 times. In the course of three weeks I was asked to come back in to interview with more and more people. For my third interview they asked if I would come in to meet the owner of the company. Now, I tell everyone before I come in that all of my work is online, so I walked into the interview with a resume in hand expecting them to have a laptop available for me to show my work. He walks in empty handed and smugly proclaims "I didn't even look at your stuff, what do you have? What is this interview for?" I knew right then I was hosed.
He misspoke a few times and didn't actually know what SEO was or how to get it, but proceeded to tell me that he typed my name into google and nothing came up. I asked him to spell my last name and of course he spelled it wrong.
Anyways, 3 weeks after that I finally get a call from the CD saying the last guy I interviewed with was very disappointed that I didn't have a presentation and didn't like my style, but hey, would you mind coming in and heading up a new large client of ours on a freelance basis? Oh and btw we're not going to go through the creative talent source that sent you here ok?
No.
I've had my share on "not the right fit" as well. You just hunker down and move on trying to better yourself for the next one.
Good luck.

Is this going to happen to me, too?

Nobody in St. Louis is hiring. I had an interview at a very good firm a month ago. I totally thought I nailed it. I followed up by phone and email, but haven't gotten any sort of response from them. It's so disheartening when people don't even drop you a line to let you know they've filled the position or whatever.
Frankly, I've just about given up on finding another full time job. I can't afford to sell my house right now, so I've got to find a way to stay afloat here in STL. I'm throwing all my weight into freelance now. Maybe Metagramme will become a legit business sooner than I thought. That requires clients though, and at the moment I've only got one. Feels like I've got a gorilla sitting on my shoulders, what with wife and son to look after.
- To my knowledge, there are only three really good design firms here, and I've already worked for one of them.Scotch_Roman
- Can you freelance to Agencies in Chicago?sigg
- And best of luck dude. Hang in there.sigg
- Rivet was hiring an art director. hit them up. http://www.rivetglobā¦moveinspace
- Thanks moveinspace, just applied.Scotch_Roman
- I'm more of a designer than an art director, but neither am I as choosy as I once was.Scotch_Roman
- i.e. I'd rather execute than hire other people to execute.Scotch_Roman
- did they shut down the VSA branch in St. Louis?coco_ono
- no prob scotch.moveinspace
- Yeah, VSA STL is dead I'm pretty sure.Scotch_Roman
- hang in there brother. I'll be right with you in a few weeks... just a different country ;)Gucci

i can never read the interviewer, most of the times i think it went good. maybe it did. also sometimes they even show projects, like they want you to start tomorrow. and later, they don't respond at all.
i had one interview when he knew i costed more and told me a really low amount per week. i said yes, as there nothing at the moment. then later he's don't reply. i don't get it.
some people are just weird.
- Mishga0
Can we see a sample of your work..?
- who's?akrokdesign
- Desmo's work, i've checked his profile, but just a youtube vid...Mishga
- hah. i just did that too. yes. needs a real link.akrokdesign

i went to n.y for a interview, back in aug. we had a few emails before the interview. then i sent my thank you note and after that. not a word from the person. that's just wrong.
- Agreed. Take what, 5 seconds to type out a quick email. WTF right!?!sigg
- 7point340
after reading your post, i'm sure i wouldn't be right for those positions either.
in fact i don't have to first clue how to "jungle"
- akrokdesign0
its better they say "your not a fit" etc. then nothing.
- Exactly. Show the kindness of finality, rather than leaving people hanging.Scotch_Roman
- +1Mishga
