have been traveling with this for a while.....it's been great...and has an internal bus, so you do not have to plug it into the wall.

The only thing I can recommend is a LaCie D2. I've had two and they've never failed me.

Speaking of ministack,
they do bascially the same thing as the g-tech drives (and just the case posted after).Their "Maximus":

- True. But at the end of the day, they're all basically just generic-drives in nice cases.
With hdd's being as cheap as they are there's almost no reason just to get a case and stuff it with drives yourself. And just upgrade the drives when time comes.Peter - ...they are there's almost no reason just to get a case and stuff it with drives yourself. And just upgrade the drives when time comes.Peter
- ...time comes.Peter
- yeah, you can do that too.akrokdesign

guardian max FTW, non-redundant/mirrored storage is so 2002
- so, whats '09 then?akrokdesign
- possibly getting a guardian max and setting up 2 drives in a mirrored raid :pkerus
- Huh? You want to raid a raid?
That must be some very, very, very, very sensitive data you've got there on top of that pile of money.Peter

I like the LaCie drives. I have the 1tb big drive set up as a redundant RAID. I also have the 500gb triple interface. If you want a fast connection, get an e-sata expresscard34 adapter for your MBP and hook it up to the HD. I am editing several ProRes HQ streams at the moment, no problems. Also the G-RAIDs are nice, but a bit pricey.

Oops sorry I just noticed you said portable.
I do have one of the LaCie rugged portable drives. it has FW400, 800 and USB2. It runs off of bus power and can handle several DV streams (it's 5400rpm). I have the 120gb but they have them up to 500gb. Good drives.

Whatever you get, get two of them and a copy of superduper. in my experience portable drives will fail. Gotta have a backup.

portable drives fail easier probably cause they moves around and shakes, etc.
