Positioning in Liquid Layouts

Is there a way to absolutely position an image in a liquid layout? When the browser is stretched the image is in a different place on the screen.
I am also trying to position an element using relative positioning but the container div is pushed down the page similar to the height of the element.

Sorry it's not online. It's part of a backend sytem. I am just asking in general.
As far as absolutely position an image in a liquid layout I tried making the table it's in relative but that didn't work.

yes, i tried a tip for making the absolutely positioned items container set to relative but it didn't work.

if the container is relative, an absolutely positioned element inside will be relative to that container.
well regardless, when the container is a table cell, you'll get unpredictable results as positioning in cells differs among browsers

I thought maybe the container being a table cell was throwing it off. I applied 'relative' to the cell and the table tags and neither worked.
