Besides the cool apple ad. I don't know if I like the redesign:
http://www.pitchforkmedia.com/
Things seem to be organized in an odd fashion.

Its cute that I have to resize my browser to 1290 wide to avoid the horizontal scroll.

this kind of seems the route websites are going these days.

not bad, better than most portals anyway

Yeah - it looks a lot better than what they had before. They also managed to get a lot of information on the homepage. Shame that there are hardly no design elements though.

and when you come back to the homepage from for example "reviews" the fucking apple ad plays AGAIN .. and you can't do anything about it .. sad..

What a mess.

that's one big mother of a banner.

nicer aesthetic. In effect the have a traditional [main] + [right] column thing going on - so why make it messy by mixing it up quite so much? I think the pull down menus are fugly.

so many things, so little time.
theres no real consistency in the size of the images, think thats throwing any structure off.

Yeah - it's a visual mess.
And out of all that content, there isn't one element that really grabs my attention and makes me want to click on it... apart from that massive apple ad.

Messy!

In terms of how many Jquery Image/Content rotators you can possibly fit on a homepage this site is groundbreaking... I spotted about 6.

Meh. Strange layout. In terms of content groupings, it doesn't really make sense to me. (eg: why are the new headlines so small? / Why are the sub-navs so randomly placed within the content groups?)
That Apple ad is a monstrosity. I'm glad it's bringing them revenue, but surely there's a balance between satisfying your advertisers and your audience? (*looks up, realizes what was just said and ducks for cover)

thank god you lot are all thinking the same thing I was. I thought I was going mad! The grid is all over the shop, there's almost no styling at all, no hierarchy or deliniation of content. It's a total mess. And a boring, bland one at that.
- benfal990
Biggest ad banner of all time. Seriously whats the deal with this gigantispectacuabehemoth ad banner? Fukin huge.
I agree, the grid is a little bit sketchy. They ( http://www.tangibleworldwide.com… ) must have get a truck load of money for this.
Last version of their site was total crap. its better but still not as awesome as it could be.

About the gigantic Apple ad; I think it wont be that big forever. Pitchfork knew by changing their design that would create a large amount of traffic on their site... so they dealed with Apple from there and must have get a shitload of money. They know that everyone will talk about the redesign and link them in our blogs... Their trafic must be as gigantic as the ad this morning.

*throws up*

what the hell is with that ad??
