Job question

So I interviewed at this firm 2 weeks ago. They told me I was one of a very few finalists, but that it could take about two weeks for them to arrive at a decision (more people to interview, etc.). I had a really good feeling about it, but in the past, waiting this long to find out about a job has never boded well for me. It's been my experience that if they actually want to hire me, they make an offer on the spot or a few days later.
Well, today is two weeks exactly. I reeeally want the job. Should I call them and casually ask how things are going? Is that too forward? Should I send an email? Or should I just sit tight and wait a bit longer? I sent a thank-you note the day I interviewed with them and haven't heard anything since. Advice much appreciated.

You should call them.

i usually wait it out, but if you have any additional work you can share with them you can send another follow-up email saying thanks again and in case it will help you decide, here's some more work/info/references for you.

I don't think a call is off the table.

Call them. Let them know you want it!

yeah it's not a date, you don't have to play it cool.
call them.

Email, just to say hi and ask how things are proceeding with the hiring.
Calling is very forward, some may have no problem with it but other will think you're a pain in the bum-hole.
Good luck though chief, whatever you decide on, hope it goes well for you.

I just called... one of the owners is at a meeting, the other was on the phone...left a voice message.
I'm prolly gonna launch the beta test of my new website today. Might use that as an excuse to send them an email too.
Thanks all!

What do you guys do in terms of thank-you notes? I usually just send an email. I've heard of some people going crazy and sending gifts or elaborate promos with lavish hand-written notes.
- here is an example..
http://www.careercc.…blog - That's pretty much what I said. Also, I'd already handed them a rec. letter from my former boss.Scotch_Roman

Definitely call, it confirms your interest. I quite often take longer than expected to get back to applicants but if they call it increases their chances by being proactive.

^ for tesmith... Do you think it's a bad sign if it's taking this long for them to get back to me? Maybe my experiences haven't been ordinary, but I usually know pretty quickly if I have the job or not.

A call or email to follow up on where they are in the process usually doesn't hurt especially if a reasonable amount of time has gone by.
