    Bit short-sighted.
You couldn't actually buy a hospital. You'd have to contract some builders, who still wont be able to get a loan from the bank for the materials needed.

    • LOL
The reader comments after the article are quite good and along similar lines.

And I don't believe for one minute that a super hospital would cost £250m. That sounds like an estimate from 'Bank of Tessa Jowell - The Optimistic Bank'

    • an antiquated software system that doesn't work would cost the NHS more than thatjamble

I think the key thing is that all this cash is not actually 'money in the bank', its the kind of financial abstractions our system has been built on since the 17th century. That system requires that the banks are saved, bottom line, or we all go to hell in a hand cart. Its not pretty, and they be doing it wrong, none of us really know yet, but although this article is illuminating in terms of the broader issue of cost of Real Things Vs long term financial alchemy, its basically a fluff piece pandering to people's ignorant outrage and understandable fears

Why is it when people are going to throw something over a politician their arms go a bit... erm... fliddy... and they only manage to get a little bit on the target's elbow.

Its almost like our conscience has a last minute over-ride on our actions that is only partially effective.

If I had a comedy sketch show I think I'd have one sketch a week of a protestor throwing custard over themselves in the presence of a politician.

throwing custard over oneself in protest doesn't quite have the same effect as setting oneself on fire, does it? Why is that?

    • Most people would see it as a waste of custard.Koopsy1/3
