I'm a habitual exagerator. Still though... less than thirty. Here the thing. it Doesn't matter Holga vs Diana... one exact holga model will differ to the next. Light leaks imperfections... not knowing is part of the whole thing, know?
I defer to my original advice, don't overthink it.
For the record, I've gone through holgas like toilet paper. Not in a bad way... just owned quite a few and did a lot of experimenting.

I'd personally prefer a Holga — admittedly, the 'Diana' name seems a little girly for me. Anyway, whichever you're getting, please DO NOT buy from the lomography shop. They're way overpriced. Look around on ebay, local lomography communities which have forums that sell second-hand.
If you've got a good deal, a second-hand camera is almost as good as a new one.
The difference between the two? This was taken off photo.net:
"Differences: Diana images are smaller - they occupy less space on the negatives. Holga pix use the 'normal' area of a 120/220 frame.Diana lenses are probably less sharp than the Holga. But there is a good deal of variation from sample to sample with the Diana, and less so with Holga. Diana images probably have more of a transition from the sharper center to the very unsharp outer edges.
There are many variants on the Diana. You can probably find 20 or so different versions of that camera, with all manner of names, from Windsor to SunPet. Most were direct imitations of the Diana, design/construction-wise, but some looked quite different, although they all claim the same cheap plastic lens.
I wouldn't venture to guess which is more "reliable." Holgas seem to be built a bit sturdier, but i had a shutter on one stop functioning. I haven't used my Diana for more than one roll, so that's a "moo" comparison. Diana's sell for more money because they're not in production. Also, since the results do vary even from Diana to Diana, many people who actively use these things like to try different samples to find the one that gives the effect sought. Mine vignettes quite severely, which i would like, but it does it significantly more in ONE corner, instead of evenly in all four.... If i had the energy, i might try another sample, but i've kinda given up on those toy cams. Some people love the unpredictability, but i kinda need to know that i can achieve a desired result when called upon, and then REPEAT that result in other situations. Holgas and Dianas and such are for folks with a more 'free personality,' i suppose.... "

mate, dont buy from lomography when its one of their cameras.
buy from ebay.
you can pick up 2nd hand lc-a's for a fraction of the cost from people around europe.
you can get dianas and holgas from china (might be a few weeks wait) for a fraction of the cost too.i'm going to be putting up a load of lomo stuff on ebay this weekend.
i might put it up as a "lomo haul"
included in the pack will be .....Lomo LC-A (with lc-a+ faceplate - so you can fit lc-a+ attachments)
Smena Symbol
Fisheye 2
Holga 120N
Lomo Ringflash
Lomo Coloursplash Flash
Mirage 500 Flash (an old classic)
Hipshop Bag (khaki green)
2x Zoom magnetic lens (fits lc-a and holga)
A massive selection of out-of-date 35mm film
A selection of 120 medium format filmdont know how much i'll be asking for this, but will get it worked out closer to the weekend.
- Seems like you're giving up lomo. :( Got an eye on your Smena.funkage

I do owe a lot to lomo, it changed the way i shoot and made me fall in love with photgraphy all over again.
I'm now back to shooting digital, but in a completely different way :)I just found myself using film cameras less and less so hence why the sale. would rather have some dosh.
will post up the links on here if i fire stuff up on ebay- Yeah, I completely understand. I'm in part where I don't go back to digital yet. :)funkage

Holga. Got both and much prefer the Holga, but I haven't experimented too much with the Diana, just prefer the light burns and general fuckage of the Holga, the Diana doesn't have that.

hey 23, I got an lc-a, what kind of price would you want for the accessories for it (flash, ringflash faceplate etc), just curious.
- moth0
I haven't used my lomo since the front plate became loose. Still need to get round to finding and buying the smallest screwdriver known to man.
Ultimately though, processing film has simply become a pain in the ass for me and my wallet and I'm not so willing to do it any more.

same here moth, my local lab that developed 120's closed down - it was very pricey anyway.
the only alternative now is jessops and they send the 120s away and you wont see anything for two weeks.
feck that.- same here, I did find a new place to develop 120, they do it for the same price as a normal roll so its worked out ok.shitehawke

haha moth I know what you mean about the faceplate. Im on lc-a no.2. The faceplate came off the first one whileI was in madrid. So I dragged my girlfreind around the place looking for hardware shops to buy a 'pequeño destornillador' to much amusement, both at my pidgen spanish explanation and constant pointing to my broken camera. No joy until my gf suggested finding an optometrist where I eventually talked them into letting me fix my camera in their shop.
Thing only lasted a short while after that and I got a new one to replace it.

I also got shouted at in a lab after i'd left in a few rolls of 120 to develop. I'd taken em with my holga so they were full of light leaks. When i went to collect them the girl behind the counter called out the lab tech and he came out and told me my film was pretty much ruined, that he'd stopped the machine to check out any leaks and it had been down for about a day, sounded like his puppy had just died. I said 'oh, I knew that Im using a holga'. he practically threw the pictures at me, shouted about wasting his time and stormed off.
Cunt, never went back there and now they've closed down.

Havent used a holga yet so cant really say -- got a diana a few months ago tho and love it, must shoot more. the cost of getting my first 2 rolls developed kinda put it off -- but to be honest think i got a bit ripped off!

Thing is I never get prints. Just dev + transfer to CD.
I suppose I should buy some chemicals and a negative scanner and then I could do it somewhat more efficiently.
I've never processed colour though - so I don't know what's involved.
- 23kon0
i just get straight to cd from developing too.
it was the 120 that was the killer - even low res.
its definitely worth investing in a good medium format scanner
and yeah you could even make your own little darkroom for b&w and save a small fortune! If you's write Lomography a nice email saying you have an lc-a and want to buy the LC-A+ Wide Angle Lens, but it wont fit your lc-a and ask if it would be possible for you to get a LC-A+ faceplate to put on your LC-A.
I did it and they sent me a faceplate for LC-A+ for FREEEE!
I know of a few other folk who have done the same and got one.
Mind you, they'll offset that against the price of the lens itself - which IS very expensive, but it is a GREAT addition to the LC-A.
Once i got the lens i never took it off.
- shitehawke0
You could spend a bit of cash and get a colour dev for your home. I'd love a darkroom set up. One day, one day.

just looked on lomo and totalled up what all the stuff i have, what would be if someone was buying it all NEW ... and was about £730 !!
might be a bad idea to put it all up as a bundle on ebay cos not a lot of people will have a big wad to spend, i'll prob end up making more if i sold everything individually, eh? or at least in little 'related' bundles
- little bundles would be the way to go me thinks.shitehawke
- Yeah. Majority purchase in 'little' bundles.funkage

Ok, now I want a Holga. How much is it (in NYC, preferably) to develop a roll of its medium format film?
