there is a huge disparity in our stats between google analytics and our server stats. what could cause this? i'm stumped. thanks.

i think awstats, and i never thought about the lack of JS. but really, how many people don't run JS on their browsers?

one person reloading a page five times consecutively could be seen as one visit or five visits, depending on how a visit is defined.

alot of mobiles/handsets/cells dont have JS and some low-tech demographics may have it switched off - ie some african countries etc

also do you have the tracking code installed on every page? your server stats will show all requests for certain file types and some of these files may not have the GA code on them?

same thing happens to our stats, on the unique visitors , page views are pretty accurate
i always wondered if this has to do with how ISPs, dish out DHCP so that some hubs could be logging the same IP for diff users , so one IP logged = 1 unique visitor , new visitor logs on gets same ip as other = no log
i know there are other ways of tracking but like i said I just wonder
- GA tries to use cookies when ever it can for identity persistence. People clearing their caches could be improperly reportedjasonistaken

More likely the disparity stays the same.. We've seen this too over many years on our online magazine on AWStats, Webalizer, GA, and just had to pick and choose which stats we liked best.. and use them consistently..

Google Analystics is not as accurate as it is cracked up to be. Again it is free, what do you expect?

Get Mint, it has been very accurate for me.
