Deadwood is good for similar reasons, Mike, and I love it, but The Wire is fucking awesome and I've only watch 1+2
The Stevedores in series 2, fucking heartbreaking.
- I never finished Deadwood but I loved what I saw. Maybe i should get started on that one again this fall.graphiknature

Wire is the greatest show EVER.
I just got the box set for my birthday and immediately restarted watching it.

Yeah, when I finally started watching the wire, I finished the entire series in a few weeks. Stayin' up all night watching a whole disc at a time.

It got worse after season 3, no?

Fricking great show. When you want to see what a show about down trodden America and how messy bureaucratic bullshit in American Government can be? AND ALSO the love of a city that is hard to grow up in? this is your show. nothing is better.

Just finished season 1. Excellently scripted tv. Makes 24 look like the ridiculou tired ott show it is. Made me watch Generation Kill which is also excellent.
- Hmm, gonna have to give it a shot then. I never payed GK any serious mind.dMullins

I have to watch this sometime in the future. I'm not sure it will beat the 5-ish shows I have at the top of my list, but only because there are some shows that remind me of this and I'm not a fan of those ones. I realize this one is most likely different and has more layers to it. Just don't have time at the moment...
- I think I feel this way because every scene I have seen (such as on YouTube) seems slow.juhls
- I stopped watching "Deadwood" because it seemed too slow, even though I love character development.juhls

mad men comparable? not in content obviously, but quality.....

i just enjoyed the deep character development and it sounds like madmen does the same, but maybe something i can relate to a bit more. although my home town is a lot like bodymore, murdaland

i'm not sure how i made it this many years without hearing about this show. admittedly, i've never really given television much of a chance, apart from my one-time additiction to law and order, but wow, this is something on an entirely different level.
i'm currently checking out mad men as well and have hi hopes as i enjoy period pieces, but i don't ever expect to be as drawn into a show as i have with this. sad it's not still running.

I finished up season 5 after a 1.5 year break. What a great show. I wish it would have continued. I was just getting into the news paper aspect.
