I'm a big fan of jaguarpc.net for hosting. Of course, I've been grandfathered in at low rates for years now...

I'm using webfaction.com at the moment - they're very helpful, and run a nice operation.. ssh access and all the trimming from the most basic account, would definitely recommend (contact me if you want to be my affiliate / would like me to be your pimp)

They've been good and bad, but the best I've tried.
Sure they cost more, but really, it is still pretty cheap.
I used GoDaddy for a while, but ran into a PHP issue that they could not resolve (worked on MT and 1and1), so I had to dump them.
I'll stick with them. Website is easy to get around too.
- 1and1 are the worst company I have EVER DEALT WITH. And I TRULY HATE THEM. </rant>lukusW

YES THEY SUCK.
It's the equivalent of a 16 year old buying music because it's on MTV.

I use these guys: http://ace-host.net/
They're nothing sexy but you get unlimited databases, ftp & email accounts, domains, subdomains etc. 5 gigs of space and a terrabyte of bandwidth for 10$ a month.
AND their tech support will return your email within 15 minutes at 11:30 on a saturday night.

Just bringing this thread back up in light of MORE recent downtime.

yup, back up though
don't know, no one has been perfect.
The one reason I love MT is the 100gigs of storage, I use every bit of that.
kreydle - 1and1 has been good, but when we've needed to contact their tech support it has been are a real pain (99% sure it is somewhere far, far away and with people reading out of a manual).
- So true, we had a problem with one domain, tried contacting no luck...FallowDeer
- Then our MD makes one phone call and gets through, then asks me what ive been doing all day! cheers 1&1FallowDeer

i dunno, i'd file this one under "shit happens"... at least its not their grid clustefuck to blame for a change

Yes.
I mentioned in another thread that I was going to cancel my account with them, but given their most recent accounting snafu, I have no confidence that they can credit me properly. I'm just going to wait until my contract runs out.
And their customer service is some of the worst I've come across... in any industry.

I just left yahoo who was always up, but restricted a lot of PHP stuff.
I've had MT for about a month now and I've had my e-mail and sites go down for about 20 minutes today, but no problems with PHP.

ASN number 47868 was broadcasting invalid BGP data that caused our routers, and a lot of other routers on the internet, to reboot. This invalid BGP data exploited a software bug in our routers. We have applied filters to prevent us from receiving this invalid data.
At this time they are in contact with their vendors to see if there is a firmware update that will address this. You can expect to see network delays and small outages across the internet as other providers try to address this same issue.

I've been with MT for about 4 years now....
Their customer service and control panel are top notch compared to what I've experienced elsewhere.
That being said, it is a little pricey and all of my wordpress sites hosted with them run really slow. I have the grid service package and I have heard that if I upgrade things would be faster. I don't think I should have to upgrade to a more expensive plan just to run a wordpress site so I'm a little pissed about that.
- use WPCache and enable Zend Optimizer for PHPacescence
- Thanks for the tip! I'll check it out.nocomply

i use 1and1, have done for about 5 years. they are cheap, as far as i know my site has never gone down and it loads quickly.
only time i have ever had to contact them was to get my account re-activated after i forgot to pay my bill.

While I was with 1and1 I experienced all of the following...
Billing Errors
I've had emails and billing responses sent to me in error - requesting I pay x-amount of money. Responses have sometimes been completely unintelligible half-complete replies to other customer's queries. I got to the point where I had absolutely no confidence in the company at all.Unexplained Downtime
There have been times when I've been unable to access my webspace / website, and databases associated with my account; unluckily for me this occurred while I was demoing a site to a client. I received no apology or explanation from 1and1; rather than own up, their policy seems to be to hope customers won't notice.Automatic account locking
At one stage I was unable to make a payment because the billing departments IT system was down. Subsequently my account, was locked and sent to a debt recovery agent, making all my domains and sites unavailable for nearly a week.No flexibility
To get anything more than basic hosting, expensive upgrades are needed. The level of functionality vs. cost often seems arbitrary; for example - why should I pay over £72 pounds a year extra just to receive SSH access? No follow up to complaints
I've sent complaints on numerous occasions and not received responses. When I have received replies, they've been 'stock' replies - standard templates. They don't listen and it's impossible to speak to anyone who can actually help. Everything is run according to scripts.Automatic rebilling
I cancel my account - they respond; not by refunding me the money I'm owed, but by re-billing me for each domain previously registered, using brand-new two year contracts. They might be okay if you need nothing more than basic hosting.. but they royally fucked me over.

I've been using mt for 3 years now and never had a problem.

http://slicehost.com <- bestest.
- Especially biased now, as my MT dv was down for hours this morning while I had bloody work to dojasonistaken
- ...THE WORST!
i'm having the exact issue with InMotion Hosting. I discovered MT was shit, over a year agostyleplus - -having the server down, with work to do, is the WORST, not slicehost (just to be clear...)styleplus
