p.s. - Why is so hard to find info about print design? I find stupid articles talking about how I should design differently, but nothing technical about the printing process.
- check the HELP in InDesign – it covers everything from Workspace to Printingalicetheblue

CMYK ≠ RGB. That is all.

as said before colors on screen will be different when printed.
the best is to go by pantone colors ... so there will be no surprises :0
- depends if you use the CURRENT pantone fan, and what paper it's printed on.jimbojones
- who would use an "uncurrent" guide...alicetheblue

Acrobat has a nice feature called Output Preview in the Print Production menu... You make it show you RGB colors/ CMYK colors and Spot Colors. Its a quick way to double check your work.
Also, check the printer for their specs on rich black, some vary. Some people will give you an ad for a magazine with 400% black and you gotta be able to realize this and change it or tell them to fix it.
Check spelling!!
If it's not too big of a project.. I might suggest exporting to JPG as well if this is your first print job. There are some features that if you don't notice you accidently clicked a checkbox will not show up in a PDF, but will show up as missing or wrong in a JPG/Tiff export.
check your bleeds with the printers, some want 1/4in some what 1/8 inch. Find out what you need to give them. Also find out how they want to receive the files.. native files, PDF, individual PDF pages, etc.
There's a lot you will find out from your printer and they make have a spec/guide sheet for you with this info.
I hope you have a monitor calibrator and a decent lcd screen (don't use a cheap LCD panel/laptop or else your colors will be even more off than they could be)
Other than that... just realize this is something people hold in their hands... so PRINT IT OUT YOURSELF to test it.
