ok. i am not the IT guy. i need help.
i have a lacie 2big ethernet drive that is plugged in to our modem/router at work, and i'd like to access the files from home. i understand that it's not VPN compatible - but now i hear it may be ftp?
how would i go about accessing files through ftp - where would i get the IP etc?

the drives are good - no probs so far. works just like a full server through your modem. i work off it in illy indesign etc and its fine.

if you have a dynamic IP address from your ISP, you need an account with DynDNS so that your IP address can be located when it changes.
you then need to set up your router/firewall to allow connections to the FTP port and forward it to the internal IP address of your drive.

thats port 21.. some passive FTP sessions might require more ports forwarded, but 21 should do it.
