If you have a million dollars how many accounts do you store it in to qualify for FDIC insurance?
- uberdesigner0
also is there an easier way to do this?

250k per depositer per bank. This means you can have a thousand freaking banks. I'm going to have to invest in real estate.
- JSK0
4 different banks and 4 depositor.
Also, you can add a none rights depositor name on to the same account to increase your limit to 500k under 1 account.
- JSK0
Or you can do government bonds. Low yielding but safe from any bank runs.

none rights depositor name? think $100 million
- JSK0
If you have 100 million, I would put it in government bonds. Safest.

Clearly this is the best place to get financial advice.

I agree with JSK. Government Bonds. Better yield than banks and you won't need insurance. U.S. will be here for a while.

There might come a day well into the future when there are no countries or people left that actually want to buy US govt bonds anymore, but yes they're fairly safe right now from what I know. Chine can't/won't keep buying it all forever I don't think...

In other words, you can help finance the war/ bailout/ stimulus. Very patriotic too.

I think you need to be clear on what sort of 'government bond' you're suggesting. Municipal bonds for instance are actually kinda risky these days (but higher yielding)... and when buying a treasury, unless you hold it until maturity the value of it may fluctuate when you sell it on. (eg: if buyers anticipate inflation, or if better returns are available with equal risk, your bond is worth less on the open market)
AFAIK Savings Bonds are the safe instrument with no fees involved to redeem, no market risk, (and a lousy return).
