Quick Q. People I know believe that we are controlled by a secret society or, the Jews or the banks. It's like nothing is true or real. Then they will tell me that I need to read to be more informed. Anyway I just wanted to hear any other opinions. Thanks!

Well, following their logic, if we are controlled by a secret society, what are you going to read and find out? Why wouldn't they be able to control information ABOUT them.
In fact, next time they bring it up, tell them that you think THEY are the ones handing out misinformation. That they want you to go on some wild goose chase trying to find out who's controlling what and what to do about it. In the meantime they are altering things and events to their liking without your unwanted attention.
And if they protest, ask them where they got THEIR information. Where did it originate, this idea that there's some secret malevolent society. Who's to say THEY aren't the ones being duped. And then cover yourself with plastic like you were at a Gallagher performance while their heads explode
- yea its true. Who is to say the information they read is true.redant

the culture of believing everything you are told, which our parents lived in unquestioningly, has been replaced not by greater insight, but by a culture of intense cynicism leaning into paranoid delusion regarding anything coming from "authority"
neither is ideal, hopefully we'll get over it eventually and have a bit of sense generally

It is possible to be 'too informed'. I went through a wee bit of a 'bad patch' a couple of years back, where I was reading too much from too wide a variety of sources. Began seeing patterns where perhaps there were not, saw dark where there perhaps was merely no light.
My point being that, if such structures do exist within our world, they are beyond our ken and reason, and therefore beyond any hope of change - so why worry? There's fuck all you poor hapless minions of the KapitalSystem can do, so sit back with your packet margarhitas and enjoy the latest pop sitcom.

my sort of girlfriend works for an online/tv news thing and is looking at how to integrate a tv news show with a web based social community. Like crowdsourcing the news. My worry about what *could* be a really interesting evolution of media in this way is that the prevailing paranoia will totally poison this model and that if we take it up fully in teh future we'll lose all editorial perspective in where we go for our information.
