I don't know if it's the economy, the bleak NYC winters, or the fact that I'm just alert to this now . . . My apartment faces the East River and I have a clear view of the Manhattan Bridge and the Brooklyn Bridge is just a bit south of that.
Last night, again, there were search boats under the bridges and tons of emergency vehicles parked on the shoreline of DUMBO in Brooklyn. A police helicopter overhead. This time the police cars were stopped on the Brooklyn Bridge so I guess if someone jumped they jumped from there. (It's easier to see what they're up to when they're stopped on the Manhattan Bridge.)
Is there a website or news source that actually covers this stuff? NYC local news is so "cleansed." I think it was 2005 when a crazed police officer planted a pipe bomb in the Port Authority and then "discovered it" so he could be celebrated as a hero. All the subways within 20 blocks (tourist heavy Times Square!) were closed. But it didn't make the news that night anywhere. Blah.

i think there's an unwritten code with press/media to not cover suicides

Yes, these "stories" are mostly overlooked.

my point exactly, google results are mostly assisted suicide which is completely different from someone stepping off a bridge or stepping into a subway track

We were shooting this video around that part of DUMBO last year where you don't need a permit. At one point we noticed helicopters and search boats everywhere. Cops came along and said "Say...you guys seen anyone out there...swimming?"
DP is like "Dude, we're not ten, you mean a floater?"
Cop: "Um, yeah. I suppose so."- you mean he was dog paddling?7point34
- what do you mean by floater?7point34
