We have a new designer here who has a somewhat appalling understanding of this core design principle. I'm looking to find some good resources for her to help her improve her skills/understanding.
Any suggestions as far as books/websites go that aren't too complex? Just need to cover the basics for now.
We're weeding out all the terrible fonts on her mac so that she can't play with comic sans and the like :P

Get her the Non-Designers Handbook or whatever that book is called, that should give her the core enema she needs. As for type....it's not fast, but there's always the Elements of Cockograhic Styles. Tell her to start looking at design magazines, print, idn, cmyk, yada yada.
- or see above and below for the Elements of Cockographic Stylesimavery

You could make her produce a faux magazine on her weekends, then when she turns it in on Monday, you scream "I already have toilet paper to wipe my ass with" and throw the prints back at her.
- I was actually thinking of something along those lines, minus the abuse :PtOki
- the abuse creates character, and it'll make her try harder, after a few tears, of course j/kimavery
- lol telling her she needs to learn the basics after 5 years of being a designer is insult enough methinks :PtOki
- ouch, 5 years? i can only imagine the work you have cut out for yourself. Might have to make her pull some rybo, that was low, I knowimavery

One wonders, did designers get better budgets in the 70s and 80s because they had to spend such long amounts of time setting type heh
