This is how my morning started.
My bosses wife sat down at her desk to work today and said "now what is that on goolge's homepage". So I immediately went to google to check it out and I said ummm... thats Jackson Pollock. lol. She then stated that her kid could do that. Which then started a little debate about abstract expressionism being art or not.
I just thought I would share that with you guys.

but the google image contains the word google, so not strictly on form with pollack but it's cool, nice to see them doing something subtle for once.

The "my kid could do that" statement has never made any sense to me as a pretext for what is or is not art.

Anyone ever seen the film "Squid and the Whale?" I didn't care fo it, but the one part I thought was great, was in which the older son plagiarizes a Pink Floyd song as his own, and wins a talent competition.
Once outed, he defends his lie by saying that he feels strongly that he truly COULD have written that song, and by that logic can reasonably say that he DID write that song.

"So, what HAVE your kids done? Could you bring an example round the office and I'll see if I can get a few million for it at the gallery?"

of course, there's the technical aspect that says Pollock spent decades perfecting the technique. A technique from which mathematically precise fractals were recently discovered to emerge--so yeah, her kid probably couldn't do that. And graphic design is easy too--anyone with a computer, right?

WOW, her kid could do that? Must be some sort of child prodigy. Ask her how much her kid's paintings are selling for at auction?
