I managed to rotate my PS file using the gestures on my trackpad. Is there anyway to rest it back to 0° again?
THanks

from the adobe forums:
"but you can hit the Escape key right after the rotate and that will reset the angle to 0. "Does not work though

Are you talking about the preview of the file?
- Dancer0
No. I have a file open in Photoshop and I accidentally rotated the file (a compass type symbol appears) with the trackpad gesture.
It is an OS command not a Photoshop command.
I cannot seem to rotate it back to zero

It has done either a Rotate Canvas or a Transform, right?
If you use gestures in Preview it does Tools > Rotate Left/Right

wow Google is fast.. this thread already shows up when I search google about this topic!
- ribit0
I think the compass is only in Photoshop tho?

that's fucking bonkers, I had a feeling that multi touch pad thing was going to cause problems when they introduced it

I have searched and now posted on the apple forum.
I cannot undo this command which is really annoying hence why I think this is a OS command

From http://www.photoshopcafe.com/cs4…
Another GPU improvement is the rotating canvas. Hold the R key and drag. You will see a compass and the whole canvas rotates for your convenience. This is useful for freehand painters using graphics tablets. The rotated canvas enables you to draw with the natural arc of your hand, just like you would spin a piece of paper around as you’re drawing on it. The rotation doesn’t affect the filters or anything, its not changing pixels; it’s only for convenience. For example if your page was rotated 30 degrees and you add a 90 degree motion blur, it would be 90 degrees in reference to the page.
So, what happens if you quit and relaunch Photoshop?

sounds like its only a canvas orientation that it affects, the file has not been altered, right? (test by opening, rotating and see if Revert is grayed out)

If, for example, I rotate the file 90° (using gestures) and I then try to undo it, multiple times it just undoes all the work I have done all at 90°
- ribit0
so from what I can tell this isn't an OS command, its a Photoshop feature. Its rotating the canvas display, but not altering the file (which is why there is no Undo, no image manipulation command has been used).

So if you are in the Transform tool, do the gestures do an image transform or a Canvas rotate?
- Dancer0
Ok.
you are right ribit, I didn't do the obvious "turn off and on again" solution.
It is very annoying though .Thanks Ribit for your perseverance

have to go see how this all works myself.. (had to do OS reinstall so don't actually have CS4 installed right now!)
