Got an oversize A4 folder. Im doing the cutter guide on the folder for the printers/
In InDesign I setup the cutter and folds as spot colours but then I just realised.
How the f* c u k do I do the reverse? I can't flip my cutter guide so... erm... ????

yes flip the guide would work.
also i'd suggest calling it a "die cut guide" to avoid confusion with your printer.
- i don't get why you would flip the guide as it's flat artwork that's folded & glued to make the folder? please ignore me if i didn't get thisMr_Neue
- i'm assuming there's an off-center tab or something that makes the flipside of die line different... make sense?horton
- but yeah of course if the folder cut is just a rectangle w/ fold, no need to flip the guide on reverse.horton
- There's a pocket!jysta

i've just setup the cutter guide as a separate layer so the design correlates and works with it, suitable bleeds - make sure to do a scale mockup just to double check. I've always let the printer sort out the rest I suppose if you are unsure ask the printer for advice on how they prefer the files to be setup. hope this helps

ok, is this folder going to have ink on both sides? maybe this is where i am missing the point - in fact of course you would need to flip the cutter guide if this were the case. Are you also creating a custom guide yourself jysta?

Draw a mock-up on paper, cut it out and fold it up. Mark all the artwork areas on the folded up mock-up (front cover, spine, inside pocket, etc), unfold it flat and make your artwork just like it.
It’s the ONLY way – trust me.
- Jup, and when finished, make a mock up again just to make sure!tank02
- sounds like you learnt the tough way friend just like I did :)Mr_Neue

Just centre the cutter with the spine in the middle of your file, you'll probably have more space on one side but who cares. On a new layer arrange your aw accordingly. Then duplicate the page, lose the aw on that page and flip the whole cutter keeping it centred. Arrange aw on the reverse.
Save out a PDF with page one as a visual, aw on, cutter on. Page 2, just the cutter. Page 3 just the aw. Page 4 just the reverse aw.
This has always worked fine for me.

i still don't understand why you can't just flip/mirror the guide.. ?

Lol, It's because I couldn't find the flip option in InDesign :-/
Why can't they put it in the Object menu so retards like me can find it/
