MacPro Vs. High End PC

I've been looking into buying a MacPro and I decided to do some comparisons to higher end PC's just to see what kind of difference in performance and maintenance I could expect.
Operating system aside (OSX easily worth a few hundred more IMO) how does the MacPro hold up? Is it really worth the money? When I see PC machines that seem comparable or better for about half the price I have to wonder.

For the same price, you could get a substantially more powerful desktop pc.. and a somewhat better laptop too
- well how does that work, the mac Pro runs PC hardware.roundabout
- The macpro is expensive tookalkal
- when PC fixes the problem with viruses let me know .. otherwise I am staying MACrayborn3000

Apple, worth every extra penny!

I think it really depends on what kind of work do you.
For 3D work, go with PC.

I thought they are quietly discontinuing the MacPro.
- hell no, blazing fast new nehalems on the way woohooacescence
- They can't. That's their only desktop solution.kgvs72
- They're discounting MacBook pro, people need to educate themselves here.epete22
- so what. why should that matter.akrokdesign
- if you want a lambo, who care's if your balled and has tiny dick. just get it.akrokdesign

i think the one advantage my mac pro has over my pc is that it is presently running 3 operating systems, one being os x. and you could possibly shield yourself from gunfire with the case.

I'm very close to asking apple for a full refund, I'm not sure what I'd do then - pc/mac. See http://www.qbn.com/topics/579383…
My wife just got a new pc and I was amazed at the amount of messages, pop ups, errors, weird errors that mean nothing etc etc. For that reason I'd probably go with mac, even though you'll read how pissed I am with them

As far as work goes I'm a 2d designer and work with print and interactive. I'm currently using a 20" iMac (bad purchase because of the screen quality - should have got the 24") and I love the fact that I can run both windows and OSX.

my mac pro is awesome, hopefully i don't have to sell it to eat next month.

If you are a designer, go with Mac.
- Why? If it works, use it. You can run nearly the same things on both computers. This argument doesn't make sense to me.Jaline
- thank you, Im sick of his argument too. Getting a mac doesn't make you a better designer. all the tools a designer needs is on bothsteven_segal
- actually i find the adobe suite to run faster and more stable on pc's. prefer home pc vs work macprodeathboy
- Agreed, that argument is no longer valid. I hate Windows Vista with a passion, xp's too old, so I moved to macs.section_014
- ...Not because of anything else.section_014
- Windows 7
(or at least that's what I hear ;-) )formed

Why are you so pissed Atkinson? What have you run into?
I've always worked with Macs and would have a very hard time working in a PC environment all the time. I can, but I don't like it.
But really my question comes down to hardware. Is the MacPro really worth the pricetag?

Oh, and I do place the occasional six hour session of fallout3 when I need to decompress. :)
- Definitely a pc thenkalkal
- macbook pro graphics are good but not high end gaming goodkalkal
- for sure. I wouldn't get the macbook pro. Looking at the macpro towerscrap_paper

If it's only 2d and you're on a budget, you can get a good price on Win laptop. Just don't buy them from Best Buy.

Hardware. No. I have had many hardware quality issues.
Currently, my MBP, when not plugged in, will over heat when in sleep and shut it self down. BUT when plugged in, its fine.
My screen washes out if I dont use the screen and left on. After screen saver / screen power down, I go back and washes out.
This happens when my computer is on the table for a while.
- yup, mine did that, new logic boardAtkinson
- Really? they sent me a box for repair. I am afraid.JSK

My older mac, due to heat bent and was wobbly.
The button on my current Mac is tilted.

If you are doing gaming, go with PC. Graphics card sucks on Mac

Returning is not really an option if you bought it in November. I would say that if you continue having problems, I'm sure Apple is gonna have to do something else about it.

Well there is a 4x to 5x markup in hardware price with Macs (after a recent comparison when considering buying a new computer). That said though in all honesty my 1/5 of the price PC isn't as fast (it's about 85% of the speed) when editing HD content as my friend's 5x price Mac (and those are comparable machines).
But there are things that annoy me about Macs (like the taskbar with icons to every application instead of only those that are open).
- your'e bitching about the dock? you KNOW you can remove everything, right?monospaced
- i'm not a mac person so i use mac only sporadically and that shit is always on -- apparently noone knows how topr2
