the article is from november but it's still very interesting. would you take advantage of the opportunity, and if you did what would you do with an extra 900 years?
i'd personally be the first in line. imagine being able to live different lifestyles, or completely different lives for that matter, and never feel "rushed".
keep in mind it's not immortality we're talking about but rather the ability to stop or severely the effects of aging.

There are some flaws...
For instance, i already can't remember what i did 4 years ago let alone 400 years ago. Maybe fysically we can live to that age,
but not mentally.

only i could live off the blood of my victims

admittedly 900 years may be a bit much, but i'll happily take another healthy 200 or so to do with what i please.

just imagine the sheer multitude of 'i'm bored' threads here if you had 1,000 years

shit...they can put my brain in a robot if it'll keep me from oblivion.
cause that's where were going to people...to nowheresville...and that's some scary shit

i suppose you have to assume that in due time there will be some advancements with regard to alleviating the problem of overpopulation.
- Greedo0
they'll figure out a way so you won't have to sleep anymore, either, then you get to work six jobs 24-7, all in the grand cause of efficiency... i mean, you'll have to work 700 years to be able to retire for 300.
- gabe0
haha greedo, i was more thinking along the lines of sustainable living in currently uninhabited areas of earth and possibly even space...

I would imagine that once genetically engineered children start to become the norm, average life span will most definitely be increased.

pretty awesome.... i think 1000 years would be too much, however could definitely use another 100 year addition to my life span to waste on QBN

From biology we know that extreme habitual safety is not advantageous for any living organism. The day the last human survival instincts lose their vitality, and humans can postpone their point of death, to escape the icy, paralyzing breath of death on their necks, people will be free from the ontological fog of survival instincts, love and procreation being one of them.
But at the same time the history of mankind will end, because its subjects -- the human beings, with their mortality and innate behavior, which is defined from it -- will disappear.Man will cease to be mortal, but he will not become immortal. He will become lifeless.
Because death is the secret engine of life. Death is what gives value and spiritual richness to everything that exists on this side of death, to everything that seems worthy, noble and interestingDeath to America, btw

I hope I die before they "perfect" it. I agree with the professor in the article who said, "After all, we already have overpopulation, global warming, limited resources and other issues to deal with, so why compound the problem by adding immortality into the mix."
Even if we lived only 100 years longer it would compound the problem. Unless we want to have a mandatory kill off once people reach 200. Either way I still hope I die before they "perfect" it.

I am kind of interested as to what is on the other side.
