Does anyone have one?
most of the video reviews are pretty standard, i was little worried about performance working in photoshop?
This will just be a machine to travel with and maybe work outside some days.

Not ideal for photoshop unless you are doing minor edits. Nice for travel and using word but not excel. Some what sucks when surfing due to resolution. The screen is too small. I felt like I was using my old 13 inch laptop again but just slightly faster.
- is the ram upgradeable on the macbook air?********
- You cant upgrade RAM on Air.********

Do you travel a lot? Do more paper work then design work? If yes to both the go for Air.
If you are getting MB 2.4, go for MBP 15 inch 2.4 at $1999 BUT if you are going to MB 2.0, stick with it.
BUT, I would get a refurbished / old gen MBP, I bought the new one, the glare really really bothered.
- I have an iMac and the gloss is really starting to piss me off. I was like BS gloss on a monitor, ya right, well its glossy.********

I mean I think MBP 2.4 is a nice compromise on performance and relative price.
- ya 1.86 isnt worth it running cs4 and other random stuff.********
- Running flash sucks on it.********

I can get a 13" mb 2.4 for under a $1000 then just upgrade the ram. that is cheaper then the mb air.

This is what I got. Not much different from the new MBP in terms of performance. Video seems slightly better in the new one.- this is a dumb question but do you need a wireless card to pick up hotspots?********
- Get the matte screen before they sold out.********
- Nope you dont.********

One thing is that I lug this sucker around every day and it does get heavy. While I liked how light Air was but hated how slow it was. MB 13 inch new one was good in decent weight and performance but hated how small the screen was for design.
- I am worried about that so I was going to get one of these hehe http://www.lowvision…********
- HAH that dont work. But external monitor works. And travel / edit only.********

I use a 1.8Ghz Air - CS3 and 4 work perfectly well. They are amazing machines.
Try one out in an Apple store :)

I just got a matte refurb 15.4", they're lighter than the new ones too.
Don't buy the 2.33 one, it's a dated version.
2.4 with 160GB hd is a bit old as well. The 2.4 that comes with 200GB and 2.5 with 250GB are the last revision Intel Penryn machines, the're faster, upgradeable to 8GB ram and heat up a bit less.

Macbook Air is like the iPod touch of laptops. There's not much hardware you can upgrade after you bought it. You can't even take the battery out. I wouldn't recomend it for PS, AI, or AE work and definitely not video work. Word, Excel, Powerpoint, Keynote, even Dreamweaver or Coda are ok. Online apps are ok, I would say medium to light work.
- I don't think you know what the iPod Touch can do.Jaline

I have one. I didn't buy it--a client gave it to me. I only use it for going on the web. I'm not sure what else anyone would use it for.

I bought the first gen macbook air for my gf. She mostly uses it for surfing web. When I travel and have to work, I just take her macbook air. The CS3 runs pretty well. I did a lot of photoshop/flash work and never have a problem. I wouldn't buy it as a only machine. It's great as a second machine.
