It's my server, so yes I have root access. I have open ssl enabled, but haven't used it yet. I'm using oscommerce and I've stripped it down and rebuilt it up to fit the site. Thanks for the replies!!

don't need to buy certificate. like acescence explained.

what you're paying for with an ssl cert is basically the signature of the generating entity. you can generate a self-signed certificate, which will of course give you a warning that it can't be verified, but will work otherwise. do you have root access to the server, or is this a shared setup? are you using openssl or...?

I'm building a shopping cart and I am starting on the secured portion of the cart. I'm usuing PHP 5 / Apache / Mysql. Anyways, it's running on a test server and I would like to test of the https:// without actually purchasing a ssl certificate because the site still won't launch for a while and it's not needed yet.
I'm kinda stuck at the moment. Any help?
