I am starting on a touch screen project, and I am getting some questions about hardware (which I confess to know nothing about the pros and cons with existing touch screens). The client is leaning towards the new HP Touch Smart machine — anyone have experience with it (either positive or negative). The other option could be an Intel Mac Mini with an NEC touch screen (but not so likely).

you should check to see if HP has some sort of system that allows people to build applications like the ones it made for that computer. Maybe some java libraries that detect more than one finger and have gesture recognition.
and I would assume that regular applications can also be touched on that thing, but not as much.
