I've got an Iomega 3TB version (much cheaper than the Drobo). I looked at it, but I was not going to be updating/upgrading with new drives - just one purchase and be done.

did you get the StorCenter 3TB NAS? isn't that more expensive than the drobo?

God aweful. Invest in a proper raid unit... The big boy lacie raid worked like a charm as soon as I got sick of the drobos terrible transfer rates... cute box but seriously, if you can't manage to read a small setup for a raid you got issues

pardon my terrible prose.

+1 ftw. Just make sure you lock the drives.

I have one with 4 1 TB drives in it. I use it for media streaming and it works like a charm. Had a few hiccups when streaming 1080p stuff, but it wasn't too bad at all, and this is a 1st gen one, now they have FW800, which is pretty cool, hopefully I can pick one of those up when the price comes down a bit.

Anyone using Time Capsule for storage? Seems like a perfect solution for me: n-wireless router with its own HD and USB for additional drives. GB Ethernet connection if I need faster action.
