Domain name swiped

So yesterday I was pondering some different ideas I had for a new domain name. Was using Yahoo to search for names, and able to find one of the domain names was available. Today I lookup the same name and it was taken and registered with these guys:
Coincidence? I know I have heard stories of Godaddy doing this is as well. Makes me think Yahoo is swiping domain names after people search for them, and using a third party to purchase them.
Even though I decided I didn't even want this name, it just pisses me off that there is such militant name snatching going on with domains.

what's this about snatch?

I have heard of Network Solutions doing that, but not GoDaddy. Though that wouldn't surprise me either.

companies have been doing this for years. they read searches on netsol and other registrars. I always search for available domains through http://www.samspade.org

Yeah, I know it's been going on for some time. But it's pretty deceptive to have a service where people can "search for available domain names" then swipe the names people search for and don't buy.

they definitely do such things.

What kills me is every time I think I have a good name, I search and it's already taken. Then I visit the website and it's not even being used....or is some spam site.

So do you guys think I am correct in my above comment.....Yahoo using some third party to purchase domain names after people search for them? Or perhaps another company is paying Yahoo for the search results?

directnic seems to be honest, i use them to look for domains

write a greasemonkey script that generates random strings and inserts it into a domain search, then let it run for a few days. maybe you can bankrupt them haha

I had this happen with instantdomainsearch.com, but never with GoDaddy and I check a lot of names with them.

i don't think godaddy does this.
networksolutions - yes. they are the devil incarnate.... .com

Just find another one. Let that expire and grab it.

well next time pony up the whole $30 or so bucks to buy the damn thing! if it's a wicked idea you can afford to sit on a few domains for the little amount of cash it takes to do so. if you have this kind of thing happen so often that you couldn't afford all the domains you'd need, start the medication for a.d.d. and stop listening to the voices in your head, focus son, focus.

everyone should make yahoo go bust by searching for sexy and fucked up names so they buy them all. I'm drunk I hope this made sense.
