some kind of business directory.. not mine! but defiantly worth a redesign...
on first impressions what would you do... i'd start from scratch but what kind of easy wins would you recommend back to these guys. are there any other directories out there that they should look at..?cheers

The site at the moment looks very date, I would get away from the "box" look the site has and maybe also change the colors a bit to make them a bit brighter then they are at the moment.
Just looking to see if I can get some links.

- kill the animated banner, if it has to stay then make it static, if it can go - all the better
- needs more white space, ditch the 2 grey columns on either side
- take that middle content (yellow boxes) and make it work using dropdown's (since the all the labeling is the same). this will make loads of space so maybe introduce some imagery

more yellow gradient boxes plz :)

It's trying to do to much... more white space definitely.. but more importantly there's far too much information on each page... really need to simplify it.

this is all good - keep it cumming!

content needs restructuring or at least the homepage need splitting up offering users an easier 'in' to the area that would interest them. At the moment it seems way too broad and ultimately Ihave no idea what they are about.

What 'max' said. The thing that jumps out the most is the the site navigation is so poor that it provides virtually no way into the content. Most users would simply give up when presented with a screen like this.
One major failing is that it requires the users to read every single piece of content on the page before making a decision. And even then, the writing is so poor, you unsure if you've made the right decision to start with.
The more i think about this, the more there are really no 'quick wins' here however it provides are great opportunity for a designer to make a real difference to this site.

The contrast is very jarring - especially as it is used in the sidebars.

ow.
I would point out that the categories (all industry etc.) are listed 3 times once in the header and then in the center column and also on the left. The colors are really unfortunate. The hotlinks are the very last thing my eye went to.
I obviously agree with everyone that it needs a lot of simplification.
