If you want to uninstall software on a Mac is it simply a matter of going into Applications and deleting the folder or is there a better/proper way of doing this?
- e-pill0
use the install cd to uninstall...
unless you pirated it all...

Get appdelete or appzapper it reads the resource fork and kills the prefs and plist and all the other settings files.

Try AppZapper
- fodcj0
Is that the only way? Not a problem as I do have the CDs somewhere but wondered if there was a solution like on PCs?

That is what I am after. Cheers guys.

Along the same lines then, is there any good Mac software that gives your computer a good spring clean etc?
- monospaced0
depends on the application

AppZapper looks good for uninstalling software... now I'm looking for something to give my Mac a spring clean. Basically something to trawl through the hard drive etc.

- The uninstall feature on a PC doesn't work, i.e. it always leaves a tonne of files behind.. that is why you need registry cleans etc..Infirm
- The uninstall feature on a MAC doesn't exist.moth
- because it's not necessary
and it's Mac, not MACmonospaced

Yeah it sounds a bit shit really. Sounds like sloppy engineering if you need third party apps to uninstall shit.
How do you uninstall the uninstaller?
- SoulFly0
some application comes with the uninstaller in the application folder.
- SoulFly0
But to go back to your original question, yes it is a matter of deleting the application folder. But you need to also remove the preferences of the application in the preferences folder.

This app is great when you're having issues.

"so for all macs are cut out to be they havn't even added an uninstall option...losers. PC 4 life."
The fact of the matter is that for most applications, dragging them to the trash is all you'll need to do to completely uninstall. Other programs stash files in the Application Support (system and/or user), the Preferences (system and/or user), and maybe something in the Documents folder. It's scary how simple it actually is on a Mac.
