I have a Mac book Pro 2.4Ghz Intel Core 2 Duo / 2 GB RAM.
I'm trying CS4 and it seems it slows down my computer a lot.
PS looks a lot slower than the CS3 i usually use.
What can be the problem? Am I imagining things or what?
Can my computer support CS4 or should I switch back to 3???
Thanks guys!

Max out the RAM.

RAM. 4GB.

If you've got a slower drive you may want to upgrade. A 7200rpm drive makes a BIG difference.
Also, where are your work-files stored? Locally on a network or external? This can also affect performance.

locally

It is very sad that a relatively new computer will not run the software well. Looks like no one is listening to http://dearadobe.com/top_rated.p…
- Yep, but that's the way it goes;
hardware pushes software and software pushes hardware.pylon

If the max amount of RAM you can wack in a machine is 4GB, always do it, you might as well. Just don't use Apple's own – too expensive.
Try someone like www.crucial.com and see the difference in prices. Crazy.

ok, well, thx, I live in france so prices are even higher!!!
I think I'll just switch back to 3 :(- ram isn't more expensive in SF. ever heard of the internet?monospaced

No! I won't allow you to do that.
If you've already waxed £1000 on CS4, spend cash on an extra 2GB... it'll be £50 or something.

hahaha, i just have the trial version of it... no worries.. but you're right, i will definitely bye an extra 2GB when i can... or ask Santa for it...

As it happens I have just bought a new MBP with 2 Gig'O'Ram.
To have 4 would cost £100 extra from apple which is actually a better price than Crucial... unless I am mistaken.
The reason being is that the MBP only has 2 slots and with the 2 GB version they fill both slots (1 gig each). If you upgrade to 4 GB you have to buy 2x2GB sticks which at Crucial is around £105. So you CAN NOT utilise the ram you already have
- Yes. You might have something there... hmm.Raniator
- makes you wonder why you skimped out on the extra 2gbmax_prophet
- exactly.... but I bought mine from JL so there wasn't an option...Dancer

how do I know the max. RAM my laptop can take support?

You can put 8GB in but apparently tests have shown that currently the OS will only use 6GB of it.. there is an article somewhere about this
BTW – CS4 runs fine on my new MBP with 2GB. But I did have a g4 powerbook before that so...

any new version of anything will run a little slower. try photoshop 4 on your machine it'll open in 1 second flat.. software move and improves with computers
