Find your local pro lab and see if they have any outdated film for really cheap. Buy a good selection of different emulsions and see what you like best.
My favorites ...
Colour neg : Kodak Portra series (great for scanning)
E-6 : Fuji Provia 100F
B+W (traditional) : Kodak Tri-x 320
B+W (Chromogenic) : Ilford XP2 Super

lomography - just cos its them - is usually a bit pricey esp for the cameras. the film is ok priced actually.
but do check out your local store and see if theyl do you a good deal on outdated film.ebay is the place to buy if you want a real bargain on bulk film though

Buy lots of film, stick them in the fridge and just forget about them.

If you're shooting with a Holga I'd stay away from slide film (unless you're cross-processing it). Your exposure has to be perfect to get a usable slide.

I'm shooting with this - http://www.lomography.com/diana/…

If you're shooting with a Diana just buy the cheapest most out of date film you can find. It will exagerate the colour shift. I used to store film in the glove compartment of my car on hot days to add to the effect.

ilford for BW... like bolus said....

My favorites:
Fuji Pro 400H and 160C,
Velvia 100F (For slides/cross processing) or Velvia 50
Kodak Tri X is great B&W but I prefer ilford FP4 Plus
Fuji Neopan 400 is decent for modern B&W film, not a very wide exposure latitude though.

lomography usually has some good deals on bulk packs of film — both 120 and 35mm. my local camera stores are now all officially out of business, so I've had to rely on their site for my film stock (I buy once or twice a year, forget about it in the fridge for a while, etc.).
I have the reverse problem: where can I get 120 film processed now... Any online services that people recommend? Or great local stores that won't mind shipping photos back to me?

Try Freestyle located in Los Angeles. They used to have lots of great off brand 120 film for cheap.

Hmmm well Lomography.com are around 35-50euro for 5-10packs - that sounds ok to me, will check out some stores this weekend in Dublin before ordering online!
thanks folks

is there a site that documents how each brand of film looks like when printed? like the lomography site but not only with the lomo cameras cus it really doesnt mean much
