i don't mean a "design issue" in the sense that "designers as consumers" but "designers as designers"
Is there something lacking in design training in that designers are trained to understand the destiny of the products they design?

Great how all the people turn up to recycle their e-waste in their cars, sitting for hours in queues, no doubt with their engines running. Then the people throw the stuff into a truck, I imagine a lot of the stuff is fully working and people don't want it any more (or else it just needs a few basic repairs) , throwing it in the back of a truck is just going to break it once and for all and mean it will have to be broken down rather than just passed on.
