Dr. Strangelove was his best movie. A bunch of his others were just boring.

I take a break from the boxes to wander over to Tony’s office. As I walk in, I notice something pinned to his letterbox. “POSTMAN,” it reads. “Please put all mail in the white box under the colonnade across the courtyard to your right.”
It is not a remarkable note except for one thing. The typeface Tony used to print it is exactly the same typeface Kubrick used for the posters and title sequences of Eyes Wide Shut and 2001. “It’s Futura Extra Bold,” explains Tony. “It was Stanley’s favourite typeface. It’s sans serif. He liked Helvetica and Univers, too. Clean and elegant.”
“Is this the kind of thing you and Kubrick used to discuss?” I ask.
“God, yes,” says Tony. “Sometimes late into the night. I was always trying to
persuade him to turn away from them. But he was wedded to his sans serifs.”Tony goes to his bookshelf and brings down a number of volumes full of examples of typefaces, the kind of volumes he and Kubrick used to study, and he shows them to me. “I did once get him to admit the beauty of Bembo,” he adds, “a serif.”

Yeah, have to agree with that. My wife still won’t watch it. I have tried telling her that sex, violence and violent sex have been portrayed much more gratuitously since this movie was made, but no dice.

So I watched The Shining for the first time last night and WOW what a great film. Jack Nicholson was amazing for his character. The only thing that annoyed me was that I kept getting images from the simpsons in my head...
I wish I hadn't of seen adaptations like this before, but still the movie was superb (although a little crazy towards the end). I'll be looking to get this on DVD at some point.
Tonight A Clockwork Orange is on :) (and I haven't seen this one either!)

Anyone remember the Kubrick.org project.
Was anyone else on QBN involved with it?
(was back in 2000)Some guy called Nekada (or something like that) had archived online loads of kubrick stills and he invited designers/illustrators etc from around the world to create micro sites dedicated to one of Kubricks films.
I did a wee microsite exploring the meanings in The Shining. Prob still have it somewhere.
Sadly, there is feck all to be found on google :(

looks like the only remaining thing - although its a bit pish.Found a bit of publicity about it by Zeldman
http://www.zeldman.com/com0600c.…
(at foot of page).Other than those, theres bugger all - archive.org has it blocked.
:(
(homepage from my microsite - there was three sections to the site - the navigation was the three areas of the pattern)- You are right. It was done by Nicola Tosic a Serbian guy who had a setup called Nekada. Bring it back man. Long live Kubrick..Lawless

Good interview, I listened to it last night. The chess part of the interview was funny, and the Dr. Strangelove part was very true about the contradiction and thinking behind Nuclear war.
