What is "nice" about Winter?

north america hardly has nice winters (if by "nice" you mean they aren't severe)... look at most of canada or those locations at about the same 40degN lat (i.e. chicago,il, nyc, ny), then the cold air spilling out of canada next week:
whenever u have cold air across most of europe.... you usually get a similar pattern across the eastern half of the US due to the ridge over the atlantic.
