Let's say you're pitching a project to a client. What are some reasons in favor of using Flash on a web site?
- moamoa0
you can do what you want.
- MikeJ0
add some COOL and FLASHING LOADINGSSSSSSSSSS
- KwesiJ0
the target market is flash designers
- Llyod0
rich content

It's just a way to add animated content to your website. If you want that, use Flash. If not, don't.

I've been told if you don't do flash anymore, you won't get noticed (at least if you're a designer with a website)... so I think it's worth researching those reasons and explaining to your client why it's better in their industry and all industries too example: it's more interactive with the viewer etc.
I don't have a flash website yet cause they weren't offereing it to my program at my school until AFTER I took the e-portfolio class. Now it's taught in flash. It's just my luck.
- Hmm. If anything, I think the trend is moving away from full flash sites to hybrid tings--html framework with flash sprinkled where required.bort
- Sounds good. Sounds better for me, too since I don't know any yet and I'm just a student. I hate how it's really beat into us though, almost every person who comes in to speak/teacher talks about how ours sites need to have flash now OR ELSE sorta stuff in order to make it.bebelabree
- hybrids are the way to go.AC02
- find whoever told you that and go kick the fucking teeth out of their mouth.Point5
- this was the mentality 8 years ago.
I remember hearing this a lot.
Now, Hybrid is the word on the skreetssofakingbanned - streets. sorry ran out of space.sofakingbanned

On the web, almost anything can be done a number of ways. But doesn't Flash do a good job of combining audio, video, animation and interactive capabilities in one shot?

If you want sound and motion on your web site, isn't it the simplest way to go?
- Fariska0
Really depends on the project.
Nut sure that a full flash website nowdays is a good idea.
Understand the content and your client's need. Then if flash will add something HTML can't go for it. Otherwise you can always have an html site with strong flash inserts for video or whatever multimedia you'd like to have.
And this is coming from a guy who did several flash sites.
- KwesiJ0
i don't do the web thing but I think the combination is best. completely flash sites with the loading thing at the start etc are old news
- airey0
fully animated and interactive. saying that the way things like moo-tools etc are heading for css/html sites you can actually achieve a lot without flash now.
i love flash but end up building css sites with flash eye-candy embedded these days.

do we need to even discuss where Flex has taken things?... goto adobe.com and click on something to purchase it (software)... the page you're redirected to...
... right click on it... everywhere... allllll over it!!!!
Flash's library is exceptionally robust these days... as the adobe page shows you...
... also check ultrashock.com - again right click 'till your wrist breaks...
... it's all Flash -
ukit's answer - WEEEEEEEEAK. :)
Also... use this one-liner when they're 'unsure' if their users have flash: "Do you ever goto Youtube?"

- Since he is asking whether to use Flash, I am guessing he's not ready ot dive into Flex:Pukit
- -1, 345, 648, 003, 342ukit
- what's the difference?turk_182
- I don't think they are talking about whether or not their users have Flash.Jaline
- the diff between Flash and Flex is what i'm asking for... no 'o' which would be the difference of our co-joined smart-assness.turk_182
- Man, Ultrashock is ugly as shit.decisionman
- airey0
also, if search engines are really important to the client then flash may not be the answer.
- Llyod0
just copy Lush
- boobs0
I'm not asking whether to use Flash. I like Flash.
I'm asking for arguments to convince the client to use Flash.

cargando!

actually boobs it's not. adobe supplied google with a new app/plugin that will allow flash sites to become searchable.
but.
it means a rethink when designing flash sites. it means that all content will need to be left as text - not outlined - which is a common approach in flash. it also means that navigation and menu systems need to be built certain ways to allow the search filter to do it's magic. obviously the ability to use XML for advanced navigation is a great plus, but a lot of flash developers i know still aren't up to that level. shit, look how many HTML web developers still use tables and antiquated building methods that lose searchability.
it's pretty exciting news for flash development but we're not quite there yet i don't think.
- oh you mean just like XHTML? when everyone just decided standards needed to be enforced? div time!!zarkonite
- yep. css positioning is great but plenty still don't use it.airey
- Fair enough. But the search engine argument against Flash is not as strong as it once was.boobs
- true but it's still an issue to the less informed developer.airey
- Still it is, for dynamic dataFariska
